Salad is a very healthy thing to eat, but if it’s covered with high fat dressing it could ruin the best of diet plans. Instead, add tasty low fat options.

The salad is the best food for your body if it is covered with the right dressing. Salads full of fresh raw vegetables are full of enzymes, vitamins and minerals that are good for your health. Getting the recommended number of vegetable and fruit servings is easy with a big salad for lunch or prior to dinner.

There are several ways to keep the salad low calorie by sticking to vegetables and fruits without added fat and calories. There are many options to use that are low fat and can be quite tasty if they are combined. However, adding a little natural fat will add calories that suppress appetite and keep you from overeating during the day and evening hours.

Adding Natural Fats to Burn Fat

Natural fats like olive, hempseed and flaxseed oil help to heal the body and add flavor to salad dressings. The key to keeping dressings low fat is to keep the amount of oil to no more than one teaspoon per individual.

All three oils have the potential to improve your health profile. Olive oil is classified as a mono-saturated oil made up of mostly omega-9 fats, that has been shown to be good for healing the digestive track and weight loss.

Hempseed oil is an oil with a perfect omega 3 to omega 6 balance. Where flaxseed oil is high in omega-3’s. The biggest problem with weight gain is when we have an omega 3 to 6 imbalance.

All people who eat processed foods tend to have a fat profile high in omega 6’s. This high omega 6 to omega 3 profile leads to obesity. So the oil you choose to use in your salad dressing is very important for not only taste but health reasons. Fats should only be 25-30% of the diet.

Low Fat Salad Dressing Options

Some of the best dressing are made without much fat. In fact too high fat content in a salad dressing can make it quite bland. The best option is one teaspoon of one of the above oil, mixed with one tablespoon of Bragg’s Amino’s and one tablespoon of natural apple cider vinegar.

To this blend you can add garlic, or your favorite herbs such as thyme, basil, oregano or rosemary. Just plain this mix is a natural health elixir that burns fat. If you don’t like vinegar, you can use plain fresh lemon squeezed over your salad. Balsamic vinegar is another option that can be used without any added oil.

If it is too strong add a little water to dilute the acidity. If you like different types of vinegar add red wine vinegar, champagne vinegar or some of the better rice wine vinegars for a milder taste. All in all, keep it low fat by flavoring with Bragg’s amino’s and the favorite vinegar of your choice.
