Raw foodists testify that the transition to a raw food diet made dramatic differences in their health and happiness, curing their diabetes, obesity, asthma and more.
A drastic contrast to the standard American diet, the raw food diet may very well be credited as the cure for a panoply of ailments, including diabetes and obesity, because of its austerity. Most raw foodists eat a diet comprised almost entirely of uncooked fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts, and their testimonies speak volumes about the transformative potential of eating only raw foods. The Raw Food Diet as a Diabetes Cure
In the documentary Raw for 30 Days, six type I and II diabetics were invited to eat only raw foods for one month under the supervision of doctors. At the end, each of these long-time sufferers had stabilized their blood sugar, effectively curing diabetes in themselves. As a doctor exclaims to one of the participants after the raw food diet period: “You look like a different person!”
Cooking food is thought to kill enzymes critical for weight loss and detoxification of the body; for instance, lipase and protease are known to break down fat and remove toxins from fat respectively.
Obesity Control and Curing Childhood Obesity
Angela Stokes started gaining weight when she began experiencing hypothyroidism at age 11; by 21, she was at a high of 294 pounds and “lost in miserable cycles of a non-existent love-life, uncontrollable overeating and complete denial.” After several years on the raw food diet, however, her weight stabilized at 138 pounds and she declares that she’s “happier than [she’s] ever been.” Stokes currently makes her career as a spokeswoman for the benefits of the raw food diet.
Many others fight obesity successfully with the raw food diet. Phillip McCluskey was on the brink of having his stomach stapled (after attempting obesity control through many other methods) when he discovered the raw food diet; he has since lost over 125 pounds. Carlene Jones went from a high of 259 pounds to a trim 127 in just nine months.
