There are so many effective ways to make sure that your skin is looking good and in good health. For instance, if you have acne then a face wash with oatmeal will help prevent breakouts. You can also use anti-aging creams to reduce the puffiness around your eyes.  Essentially there is a product for every problem that you’re having.

One thing that might be getting overlooked is that you should be exfoliating your face. Exfoliating is something that many people tend to not think about too much.

In fact, not many people even know what it does and why they should do it themselves. In this article, we will go over some of the reasons to start exfoliating your face right away.

1 – Brighter looking skin

Over time dead skin cells will accumulate in your pores and make your skin look dull. The outer layer of skin is also damaged due to the effects of the sun and even the soap that you use. This leads to skin that looks old and tired.

When you exfoliate, you are removing the dead skin cells from the pores and even scrubbing away the outer layer of old skin. What’s revealed beneath it is a new layer of skin that is soft, supple, and brighter than the old layer. This gives your face a glow that is hard to miss.

There are a lot of different types of exfoliants from creams with scrubbing beads or ground walnut shells in them and even some masks that use a chemical to remove the skin. Choose the one that is right for your skin as some of them can be a bit harsh.

2 – Prevents breakouts

Those dead skin cells that accumulate in the pores block the sebum along with bacteria. The bacteria can then grow and become an infection. This is usually how acne begins and can then spread over your face.

When you clear those pores out with an exfoliant, you are taking away the habitat that bacteria prefer and not allowing them to reproduce and cause a blemish.

You can also use some salicylic acid that will keep the skin disinfected and prevent blemishes from happening. The exposure to the new skin layer also aids the absorption of the cream to prevent breakouts. The skin is able to keep itself cleaner as a result.

3 – Lightens the dark spots

One of the first signs of aging skin is the fact that there are dark areas that never used to be there. One of the reasons these dark spots develop is because there is not as much circulation going to that area of the skin which reduces the available nutrients.

These dark spots are not permanent and can be lightened by exfoliating. You will be removing the dark areas by removing those layers and exposing the new skin underneath.

Then, they will not come back since exfoliating the skin increases circulation. This brings those much-needed nutrients to the skin so those dark spots don’t develop again.
