Americans are eating themselves to death. Restricting daily caloric intake is the key to life extension and delays the onset of age related diseases.

Today, over 80 million Americans are fighting the battle of the bulge.

They eat too much and are overweight, In a sense, the same thing keeping them alive is killing them. Overeating.

America is eating itself to death

Nowadays, people eat like there’s no tomorrow. Which, for some, is a self-fulfilling prophecy. There is little doubt that the single most potent method of life-extension and age related disease prevention in laboratory animals is severe caloric restriction. For example, the animals restricted to 60% to 70% of their “all you can eat” counterparts lived up to twice as long remaining healthy and agile long after the non-restricted group were dead and buried.

Unfortunately, caloric restriction doesn’t work the same way with laboratory animals as it does with people.

Obesity in this fast food nation is life-threatening. Perhaps the best way to arrive at your optimal caloric intake is through body type. Short, tall, bi-boned or slender, the currently recommended ratio of fat to muscle mass is 18% -22% for women and 18% -32% for men.

Of course, some fat is necessary to maintain vital organs, support normal impulse conduction The fact is too little fat is just as bad as too much. It would be wise to consult your physician or nutritionist to determine your ideal body weight and caloric consumption.

Fast food, Faster death.

Before we go any further, I’d like to offer you some proverbial food for thought. According to the latest statistics, the average American consumes 300 to 400 pounds of red meat annually, 24 pounds of pizza and a staggering amounts of fast food.

According to a long-term government funded study, caloric restriction is the primary factor in life extension and delaying the onset of age related diseases.

You may think that abstinence is the answer. But it’s not. The answer is moderation brought about by a gradual shift in attitude and diet in which chicken or fish are substituted for read meat on occasion. And Fresh vegetables should replace mac and cheese whenever possible.

Principles of healthy weight loss.

Slowly but surely – rapid weight loss programs are ineffective. Chances are the dieter will begin weight cycling and wind up heavier than before. Removing 500 calories from your daily diet will result in losing 1 pound per week.

  • Consistency and moderation – losing weight requires a conscious effort to limit your intake of calories. If you screw up one day, pay for it the next. Avoid fattier foods whenever possible. Remember, it’s not a race to achieve your ideal weight. It is a change of behavior
  • Exercise – No doubt it is difficult to reduce your daily caloric intake by 500 calories. The alternative is to burn off 500 calories through exercise – but that’s no walk in the park. For a good many people, the best approach is limit your caloric intake by 250 calories, and moderate aerobic exercise seems to work best.

Undoubtedly, this is a far too complicated subject that involves family medical history and other factors that influence your desire to overeat. But when all is said and done, it comes down to one simple postulate: rather than adopting the attitude of live to eat is definitely better to eat to live.
